Snack foods often have a bunch of weird ingredients in them and are not healthy alternative for regular snacking. Our family has stopped buying snack chips for the most part. Surprisingly we haven’t missed them all that much. We still were buying microwave popcorn and no one was loving it very much. What we needed was an alternative.
About a year or so ago was we reduced our reliance on pre-packaged microwave popcorn. There’s a whole lot of bad stuff going on with it theses days let alone the fact it just doesn’t taste as good as it used to. So we bought an air popper. We used to have one but the top wouldn’t stay together anymore, that was problematic.
After a bit of research we found an air popper. We bought it and let’s just say it was not a success. Popcorn seeds flew every where. Popped popcorn was shooting across the kitchen into the living room. 5 minutes of popcorn popping lead to 10 minutes or more of cleaning up after that fracking popper. I started turning it towards the wall so kernels and such weren’t flying at me. That stuffs hot when it first comes out. We took it back.
Than as I was pinning (shocking I know) on Pinterest. I found a pin about doing your own microwave popcorn. Which involves a paper lunch sack and 1/3 cup popcorn and two minutes on high for the microwave. The 1/3 of a cup was too much for out bags and we dropped it down to a 1/4 cup. Its quick, easy and has the same texture as air popped. Who ever figured this out is completely brill.
The reason we decreased the amount of popcorn used was we has major burning issues with the 1/3 cup. I don’t know if it is the size of our bags, elevation, or something else, but it was too much and burned up horridly. The popcorn button on our microwave works great for this, it is two minutes on high.
I love that this lacks a whole list of weird unpronounceable ingredients and tastes great. You can put what you want to flavor it or leave it plan. It makes a nice popcorn snack.
